Hiroshima - Japan II

On my second Japan journey sure I couldn’t miss this historic but fascinating city Hiroshima (click on the linkt to get to the last blog). I decided to to a second blog, as some things looked different in different times of day, with a blue sky or even at night or in the case of Miyajima Island a different tide. We went with lover tide this time. It wasn’t low enough to walk through the torii, but still stunning, so I’ll start with it. The torii seemed to have been restored as well as this time the red was shining quite strong.

Also at the end of the blog a new tip I sadly wasn’t aware of last time.

Miyajima Island

Walking by the beach with a first glimse at the torii.

Look how fresh an glooming the torii looks! We could actually walk quite close due to the lower tide.

Temple with low tide.

Komyoin pagoda a little bit up the mountain.

Little deer baby 😊

Autumn colors in the park.

Beautiful koi in a small pond in the park.

Look how cool and old school this fire station looks!

Good bye via ferry. Such a beautiful space. Like last time, we could have spend so much time here, like for hiking up the main mountain, but there was so much more to see for the first time for my partner and second time for me.

Mitaki-dera Temple

I already showed this temple off the typical tourist path the last time. It is not far from Hiroshima, just around 15-30 minutes by train and then walking another 15-20 minutes. It was as quitet as last time and the weather was a little better.

So this time just two of my favorite shots. Go and have a look for more in my last Hiroshima blog.

Last time I only showed you one of those guards, this time all of them in full power.

Hiroshima Castle

The hiroshima castle with a museum inside. We couldn’t visit it this time, as it was already late, but we explored some other temple on the way to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial.

Hiroshima Peace Memorial

Like mentioned last time, the historical role of Hiroshima is a sad one but the way Japan displays the past is maintaining the heritage but giving hope at the same time.

The Atomic Bomb Dome - The only building left to remember what the bomb destroyed.

The Children's Peace Monument again was one of my favorites. The crane origami still remains a symbol for resilience and peace.

Sneak peak at the atomic bomb dome.

The area is not less impressing at night.

Okonomimura

I sadly didn’t know last time, but there is a whole food cort with different levels just for one of my favorite japanese foods, the okonomiyaki.

There are so many restaurants right beside each other, each with some small specialties, we tried two, one each night. Both where great. Each time we had a standard one and a second special one. The first time one with sea food, the second one with a melted rice cake in it. All so tasty!

Doesn’t this look tasty, prepared right in front of you, so you can see every step. The is a Hiroshima and a Osaka version of it. While the Osaka one is tasty too, we ate it a two places there as well, I prefer the Hiroshima one with rice noodels.

We even found a christmas marked 😄 It was early November…
