Valladolid - México

To be honest, I never heard of Valladolid in Yucatán before, but we wanted to choose a place to stay near the Chichén Itzá, for which I will publish its own blog next week. It’s gorgeous! But we were surprised by Valladolid as well. We explored the city by food ant also had the best sea food during the whole trip trough México and that means something, because they are great at it. So if you have the chance, go have lunch or dinner at Restaurante Los Arrecifes. But following my impressions of the town.

Cenote Suytun

This Cenote is easy one of the most popular ones in México and I have seen it on pictues before. We chose to go early morning, so the line to take a shot on the path and platform that leads into the water and center of the Cenote was not too long. But I heard that as soon as buses arrive it can take an hour or more wait as everyone wants a shot in the middle. The shot below was shot quickly in between people changing 😄

All through the Cenote you would finde these cute fish. And yes, we went swimming in it, they do no harm at all. But in all the Cenotes we had to wear swimming west as they had tourist drown in the past that coudn’t swim…

This here was as small Cenote beside the one before whith no swimming allowed as the nature kind of took it back already.

Cenote Xkeken

Another great and cool Cenote, less crowded as the one before, so we enjoyed a cooling swim a little longer.

Cenote Dzitnup

Just beside the previous Cenote you find this beauty. it was so much deeper in the left part than the others and some people chose to jump in which was forbidden in the other ones. So it was a fun one to be in as well. Also great for snorkeling.

Around most of the Cenetos the ground was not only set with old stones and moss, but every now and then you would find these beautiful art engraved in the stones. These are just some of them.

By the way, the area around Valladolid is full of Cenotes, we just picked a few to go but could have gone to at least five more that I had marked on the map. But as the time was restricted we only chose the few above which were great for a stunning view and a cooling swim in the heat of the day.

Old town Valladolid

But as mentioned, the old town is cute as well. We started at the Parque Principal Francisco Cantón Rosado, which is found on the left on the pictore below right in front of the Iglesia de San Servacio.

No clue what this building was called, it was on the opposite side of the park so at the north entrance. I truly enjoy the colors in México.

From the park we went west and passed all the way past the Calz. de Los Frailes which is colorful with stunning buildings as well.

This graffiti was found in a restaurant that we passed by. Stunning isn’t it?

At the end of the street we reached an art market at the Parque de los cupules.

At the Parque Sisal you find the artsy Valladolid sign with the Convento de San Bernardino de Siena in the background. It is lit at night but we were tired from a long day and just relaxed by the sunset and then headed to our stay before it was fully dark.

Our stay was at the TecnoHotel Valladolid, at the east side of the town but as most visit by car anyway and they have enough parking space, huge roomes, breakfast included and the mentinied fish resaurant was at walking distance, it was a great spot for us. At the left you see a picture from our way to our room. We had two great nights there and after the seconde night we headed out early for Chichén Itzá which you’ll find in the blog next friday.
