Cozumel & Playa del Carmen - México

Most tourist spend more time in the big cities like Cancun, Tulum or Playa del Carmen. But we mostly do not enjoy lying by the beach almost touching the other tourists at you side. Of course, great places attract more tourists and the beaches in those cities are great, but we decide to take a little more effort to lessen the tourist amount like we did when we visited visiting Isla Mujeres while sleeping in Cancun. We staid just a few days in Playa del Carmen and one of them we just spent on Cozumel, a great island reachable by a short ferry ride, which already eliminates the tourist that just like to lay by the beach. We rented a scooter for the day near the ferry spot. Always talk to a few to find a decent price.

Bye bye Playa del Carmen.

Such a clear water if you look down from the ferry.

Cozumel

We drove all the way south east across the island from the ferry port, as the north is not easily reachable and from there surrounded the island driving by the coast all the way south and then back up on the west coast. Again, like on Isla Mujeres, the east coast was the wild one not easy to swim at, since the waves crash hard. Still beautiful though!

Playa Punta Morena where the waves get crushed by the stones so you can relax in the water a little.

The west coast was nice to swim, we spend a few hours at a beach club at the Playa Palancar, where the water was so pristine, super clear and great for just drifting on your back but also for snorkeling. I was so in the moment that I didn’t take a single picture from there, just one as we left from a cute animal in the front. I asked back then but forgot what it was called:

We left the beach as the sun was setting and explored San Miguel de Cozumel in the dark before we got on the next ferry back to Playa del Carmen.

Playa del Carmen

Back in Playa del Carmen we experienced a dance and fire show from a Native American tribe. It was fun and all happened under this stunning statue by the beach. We diced to walk back to our Airbnb by the beach.

We booked a great Airbnb in the central with a roof top terrace and even a jacuzzi on that roof top. Imagine having a great view while relaxing in the bubbling water. The rest of the apartment was just a one room apartment with kitchen and bedroom included in one big space. We therefore chose to have our breakfast on the rooftop terrace as the view was so great. Btw, the pineapples in México were devine, we got one each time we drove by a farm store where they would cut them fresh for you if you wanted. Also the avocados were on point and super fresh. We mostly had them with some fruit and like here egg for breakfast during our trip.

Below you see our view for sunrise, we enjoyed it!

At night we also explored other roof top bars in the area.

On our last day in México we woke up and decided to walk the 10 minutes down to the beach, still in dawn to watch the sunrise by the beach and even jumped in the still cool water. Afterwards we heated the jacuzzi again to warm up and relax and had a last breakfast with great view before heading up to the Cancun airport.
