Chichén Itzá - México
Chichén Itzá
I know that you didn’t know that you needed a full blog of the Chichén Itzá, an archaeological site of an ancient Mayan city, which is now part of the seven world wonders. It is a great display of the stunning Mayan architecture and culture. As my memory of such details isn’t great, I won’t falsify any information by telling you something about it. I do highly recommend at least an audio guide or even better a tour if you visit as there is so much to learn about this stunning area!
The center of attraction is the Temple of Kukulcán which you sure have seen on pictures before and since I was fascinated by every angle of it, here you go 😄
The city of Chichén Itzá does not only display this gorgeous temple but also other sides as you will see in the following. It is so faszinating to me to see what humans were capable of so many hunders or thousands of years ago!
Below you see that they did also play ball games on a big pitch. Unfortunately with some brutality added to it as, if I understood correctly, the loosing team had to die…. The tiny rings up the wall on both sides where the goals where they hit the balls into.
As you can also spot on this picture, it was so hot that’s why most of the visitors tried to stay in the shadow 😄
In some parts there were contructions going on. It’s great to see that they try to maintain those past buildings.
Such beautiful details where found all over. Some buildings where in better shape than other.
A kind of cenote or maybe even lake, as it is in the open, you wouldn’t want to go into 😉 All over the area nature was taking over, but I liked that.
Btw, I bet this girl just came from Holbox, as she seemed to have been eaten alive by mosquitos. This must have hurt so much! On Holbox we saw many people on the beach looking just like that 🫣 Still, if you had mosquito spray you were saved!
Ik Kil Cenote
We didn’t have to go far after the visit in the summer heat to get another cooling swim in this great Cenote. The natural look was gorgeous and there was a spot where you could jump in. As mostly I decided to skip this part due to my fear of hights, but my boyfriends had fun doing that 😄
Izamal
Another stop we made after our cool down in the Cenote was, half way on the way to Mérida, the yellow city Izamal. We sadly couldn’t go up the Kinich Kakmó Pyramid for a great view over the city as we sadly got 15 minutes late since it closed at 5pm… But the Covento de San Antonio an surroundings where nice as well.
