Nagasaki - Japan
In times of war all over the world it is essential to me to remember, that peace can be found after war, but the wrong doings of humanity can never be forgotten. That is why we choose to drive all the way down to Nagasaki to honor the memorial of the atomic bomb. This column is the last piece standing after the drop of the atomic bomb over Nagasaki. It is right beside the Atomic Bomb Hypocenter Monument where the atomic bomb was dropped.
There is so much to see in this area. Diverse memorials, a park with statues, all remembering the brutal past that was forced on Nagasaki.
Atomic Bomb Hypocenter Monument
Nagasaki National Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims, this is where we learned how to fold origami cranes.
Ground Level at the Time of the Atomic Bombing
Peace Park
Peace Statue in the rain, not less beautiful though.
So many statues of mothers protecting their child. Knowing, that against atomic power there is no protection, they really make you sad but that is what their reality was…
Nagasaki Seaside Park
We had a full-on rainy day when we had our daytrip to Nagasaki, but we still really enjoyed the city amid its sad past. If the weather would have been better, we sure would have stayed longer and we both agree, that we want to visit again one day to explore the mountains. We really enjoyed walking by the river while being surrounded by the mountains as well.
