Dallas - USA
Sometimes traveling doesn’t go as planned. On a trip to Mexico in 2022 we got stuck in London, due to technical issues in the aircraft. Everyone had already boarded when after rolling to the runway we suddenly returned and a problem was declared. At the end we sat in the airplane for over 3 hours until we finally started. We were supposed to only change planes in Dallas, Texas, but when we started in London it was already clear, that the last plane to Cancun would have already left the time we would land. So, we would need to spend a night in Dallas.
The airline booked us a nice hotel close to the airport and our connecting flight was the next evening. We were quite relaxed, as everything was taken care off, but some other fellow travelers were quite nervous and we helped a Germany couple that couldn’t speak English. Some others in the flight got booked into earlier flights, like the two of them, but since our huge aircraft was now mostly spread over multiple smaller planes that were already well booked due to high season in Mexico, we ended in one of the later ones. But we took advantage of the time in Dallas and explored the city for a couple of hours.
The Giant Eyeball is true to its name…
The AT&T Discovery District is way more pleasing to the eyes with a mirror statue, large add screens and an animation inside as you see in the next picture.
The Spirit of Communication statue can be found at the south entrance of the AT&T Discovery District.
On the Pegasus Plaza we got talked to by some sect members who wanted to convince us to join their weird perspective on the Bible… No thanks…
The pictures besides us spreading love were way more pleasing than the preachers…
Akard Plaza in front of the Dallas City Hall.
The Pioneer Plaza is full of cowboy and cattle herds statues showing the beginning of the city.
This is the John Fitzgerald Kennedy Memorial a square statue with a memorial stone in the middel.
The Dealey plaza is where Kennedy was shot at and left the city known for this dark day…
It was nice to spread the legs and whiteness some historic places in Dallas. Sadly, the weather was not on our side as it was raining on and off. At the end our shoes and pants were soaking wet. We returned to the hotel to get our luggage and asked for a Hairdryer. That way we at least got our pants and shoes a little dryer for transportation and exchanged into different ones. Since in Mexico we knew we wouldn’t need closed shoes much we actually only had flipflop with us, so for the first time ever I boarded a flight in summer pants and flipflops 😄 Out replacement flight left without trouble and as you will see in the upcoming blogs, we had a lovely time in Mexico. Only one day in Cancun was canceled due to the delay, but to be honest, we didn’t like the city that much anyway and other spots we visited where so much more rewarding. Also we got a large amount of our flight costs back due to the delay, so it was actually a very affordable flight 😉
