Beijing over night - China

On our last trip to Japan we decided to save some cash and thus chose a Air China flight with two over night says. The first one was in Beijing in China. I have been there before during my exchange semester in Shenzhen. Honestly, it is a gorgeous city and even though we just had a few hours at night walking trough downtown, we fully enjoyed it. The hotel was provided by the airline, as well as transfer to and from the airport to the transfer hotel. In my last blog about Beijing you can have some more impressions but here you go with what you can do in a couple of hours.

We took a cab to the Jingshan Park where we hiked up a bunch of stairs passing by diverse beautiful buildings. The hike was fully worth it as from the top you have a view over the Forbidden City, which unforunately was already closed, so we couldn’t visit.

If you do not have much time, I fully recommend visiting this park both by night as well as by day.

We weren’t the only ones enjoying the view 😉

Back on even ground we took a bus to the Tian’anmen Place, but unfortunately we needed to register online a day in advance to visit, so we walked further south. Btw. those awesome bike lanes weren’t there last time I visitied in 2016, I really enjoyed to see the city advance.

Zheng Yang Men, the former city gate from 1419.

Zheng Yang Men Jian Lou, also part of the former city city wall.

Below it Qianmen Street, a great street for food and shopping area begins. I have been there before and this time we munched in so many different stores with to go snacks and sat down in a tasty restaurant at the end.

These was my favorite sweet snack as student in China. It is a yogurt drink which I bought quite often. That night I couldn’t walk by either.

Apart from that we enjoyed some Peking duck to go, some meat sticks, some dumplings, all food I couldn’t eat last time, as I still was vegetarian. Still, at the end we ended in a restaurant where we ordered way too much, at least 5 dishes and all of them ended to be vegetarian ones, as I remembered them to be tasty and I wasn’t disappointed. My favorite simple dish in the cafeteria on campus was just tomatoes with egg and white rice. I have no clue what spices they use, as I never managed to replicate it, but there it tasted just the same. Sometimes being nostalgic is nice.

This time it was such a short visit, as my boyfriend was skeptical about how he would like it and how easy it would be to get around. But with my knowledge about Chinese Apps for navigation and a great public transportation infrastructure it was quite easy. We will sure return again!
